The Caledonia Waterfalls Nature Trail! A fairytale in nature!

I had sooo much fun today… as you can probably see in the pics!

An easy, but amazing hike, definitely worth doing!

Located on the outskirts of the village of Pano Platres in the Troodos mountains, the Caledonia Waterfall is included amongst the most striking and tallest waterfalls in Cyprus.

The water from the waterfall cascades vertically from a height of 12 meters, which playfully intertwines with the sunrays, creating the ideal atmosphere of serenity and romanticism.

The hiking trail follows a course along Kryos Potamos river, then passes the Caledonia Falls, and ends at Psilo Dendro (Tall tree), in Pano Platres.

The combination of the surrounding dense forest, the clean, fresh air, and the gurgling sound of the water, make for a trail not to be missed!

Starting point: 3km outside of Troodos, on the road to Platres

Hiking distance: 3km (linear trail – all downhill)

Time covered: 2 hours

Altitude: 1600m

How did the waterfall get its name?

Caledonia is the Latin name given to the waterfall, that was discovered by a Scottish expedition visiting the Platres region in 1878. They were surprised by the resemblance of the waterfall with their homeland and named the waterfall Caledonia, which is an ancient Latin name of Scotland.
