Healthy & Fit at 61! This is what I eat!

So, I’m vegan, which means I don’t eat red or white meat, fish, or any dairy products.

I follow the ‘Alkaline Diet’ which emphasizes eating more alkaline forming foods and less acid forming foods, and this helps to balance my pH levels.

My focus is on eating clean and ‘real’ foods, and a lot of ‘green’ foods, and I avoid eating sugar, processed and refined foods, and basically any foods that contain additives and preservatives.

My good health though doesn’t just come from my diet. I exercise at least 5 days a week, and I also focus on my mental health too, regularly detoxing my ‘mind, body, and soul’ from negative and unhealthy thoughts, people, and situations.

I eat most of my calories/main meals/snacks by about 3.00pm, and thereafter, I usually have some soup, or fruit, nuts and seeds, or crackers with hummus, or a protein shake, depending on how hungry I am!

I eat oats in the morning with fresh fruit, nuts and chia seeds, or some wholemeal bread with avocado and tomato, or crackers with peanut butter and banana.

I love every fruit that’s in season, but my favorite fruits are apples and bananas!

Peanut butter and avocados are also a regular part of my diet as they’re full of healthy fats.

Nuts and seeds too, which are also my ‘go-to’ snacks for when I need an extra boost of energy. However, I also get my energy from all the other things that I eat too, and because I eat a clean diet, and I avoid sugar.

I get my protein from foods like legumes, chickpeas, peanut butter, nuts and seeds, and I drink a soya or pea protein shake twice a day too, because I exercise quite a lot and my body needs the extra protein.

Some of my favorite meals are black bean and quinoa burgers, chickpea curry, spaghetti bolognaise (made with soya mince), bulgar wheat with portobello mushrooms, okra, falafel, tabbouleh, my super delicious Buddha bowl, beetroot salad, veggie medley with sweet potato, brussels sprouts, red onion, and green beans, cauliflower and broccoli au gratin, and veggie lasagna!

I also eat lots of soups too. I just make them with whatever I have at home, for example, peas, celery, leek, carrots, spinach, white cabbage, potatoes, lentils, red kidney beans.

I drink lots of water, green detox smoothies, and teas too, usually green tea or matcha tea, peppermint tea, and of course, English breakfast tea!

The main supplements I take are wheatgrass, turmeric, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin C (but not all together or every day, I basically rotate my supplements depending on what I feel my body needs).

And lastly, I would be lying if I said that I don’t ever eat unhealthy foods! Of course I do! But I only eat them sometimes, on my ‘cheat day’. I don’t eat candy or cakes though when I’m on a cheat day, I’m more of a savory gal, and my weakness is potato chips and French fries!
