Health, Nutrition & Fitness after 50 (my favorite 3 topics!)

‘Healthy Aging’ is about looking after ourselves now, so that we can have better health and enjoy a better quality of life as we get older.

Exercise and nutrition are important at every age, but they are especially important after the age of 50.

As we get older, our focus should be on eating healthily and nourishing our bodies, because the foods we eat now will have a considerable impact on our health in the future.

It’s also extremely important as we age to make sure our joints remain flexible, that we keep our muscles and our bones strong, and our heart healthy.

Making changes to our lifestyle doesn’t have to be complicated, and even a small change can make a huge difference to our health, as every little bit helps.

Being more aware of our current lifestyle and adjusting it to find a healthier balance is really what it’s all about.

For example, being more conscious of what we eat on a typical day can help us to see what we eat too much of, what we don’t eat enough of, for example, fruits and vegetables, if we’re getting enough protein and healthy fats, or if we’re eating too many simple carbs and not enough complex carbs.

Incorporating some exercise into our day doesn’t have to be complicated either. Keep it simple, just go for a walk or lift some light weights at home. Build it up gradually, today’s 5-minute walk will soon turn into 10, 15, 30, or even 60 minutes!

Even if you just start thinking about making a healthy lifestyle change, it’s a great start! It only takes one thought, a positive attitude, and a little motivation!

Take caution: You should always speak with your doctor first and get a full medical check-up before taking up any form of exercise. Your doctor will advise you on your limits and abilities as well as what you should avoid, especially if you have existing health problems or are taking medication.
