Health benefits of zinc and the foods it’s rich in
Zinc, like vitamin C, also helps to keep our immune system strong. It’s needed for DNA and protein synthesis, and it supports the wound healing process too. The body doesn’t naturally produce zinc on its own, so we have to either obtain it from foods or from a supplement.
Foods that are rich in zinc include:
Shellfish, meat and poultry, milk, cheese, eggs, and yogurt.
Mushrooms, kale, spinach, asparagus, and broccoli.
Chickpeas, lentils, and beans.
Pumpkin, sesame, hemp, and chia seeds, pine nuts, peanuts, cashews, and almonds.
Wholegrains, oats, brown rice, quinoa, fortified breakfast cereals, and cacao.
You can also take a zinc supplement too for just that extra little boost.
TIP:
Do a quick check list of what you typically eat, to see if you’re getting an adequate amount of zinc.
